The string of hearts is a trailing succulent native to South Africa. This plant has long, loose tendrils with circular, spade-shaped leaves that do best in a hanging basket or on a west or south facing window. The small heart-shaped leaves with a blotched pattern that can range from pink to light green is a perfect addition to any home. This succulent plant enjoys bright indirect light with well-draining soil as it does not like to stay wet - add pumice or perlite to soil to ensure sufficient drainage. Too much water on the string of hearts will result in swollen foliage and leaf drop. Because it a succulent, this is perfect for any beginner who tends to forget to water and neglect their plants. This plant lives its best life in 60-to-80-degree Fahrenheit– avoid drafty areas that get cold. When repotting into a terra-cotta pot with plenty of drainage holes, be careful with the little leaves as they are very fragile. For a nice and lush look, propagate often. This plant will go into dormancy during the winter months so allow the soil to fully dry and during the spring/summer, feed it fertilizer.
